erzsebeta: (mid 1800s riding habits)
[personal profile] erzsebeta
It seems I accidentally created a riding habit. Not complaining about that, just a bit surprised.

The basque, aka the Jacket of Doom, is finally finished. The center-back box pleat has a tendency to splay open and stick up like the tail-fins on a '59 Cadillac, but as long as the points are symmetrical I'm not going to waste any more energy on it.

The skirt still needs knife pleats at the hem, both to dress it up a bit and cover the gap between the hem and the floor. Problem is, that gap only exists in the front and sides. The back touches the ground, even with the bustle.
Would it look weird if the back pleats dragged?

Help?

Get a larger bustle? Wear higher heel? Lean forward?
;~)

So very, very helpful. ;)

Masae took swapped out the larger bustle on the grounds it didn't look right with my skirt.
Can't comfortably wear a higher heel anymore. :(
Leaning forward? In a Victorian corset? Hahahahahahaha!

Meh. 1880s skirts seemed to have random draggy bits so a mini-train shouldn't be too far off. I hope.

What the heck--just wear some damn sexy boots and tell people you planned it that way. Kudos to you for sewing your own anyway--I flaked out and ordered a dress off the interwebs. I hope it kinda fits--it arrived last night (a rumpled wrinkly mess) but I haven't had the chance to try it on yet. Luckily I still have hoops and a petticote from a Victorian I made (OMG!) about 25 years ago. I ordered some shoes too, but I doubt they'll arrive in time. :-(

What size pointy toed shoe do you wear? I have a couple pair of granny boots.

I'm not *that* industrious. Everything is being altered, not made from scratch. Still a serious PITA.

My boots would be big (9.5-10) but you can borrow a pair if you want.

:-) No, thanks. I'll figure something out. It's a long dress, so hopefully my feet won't show much anyway.

Tried my dress on last night and it mostly fits (a little loose, but not too bad--might be nice if it's hot). I also picked up my hat from Deena's. She did a gorgeous job on it, but I'm not so sure it goes with the dress. :-( I will probably wear it anyway because when else am I going to get the chance?

I have total hat envy.
