never too many Germans

I have sewing on the brain while I'm at work, as usual. On the bright side, my vacation starts tomorrow so I might actually get something done. As long as Ysa doesn't break out too much of her wine stash.

I have all the fabric (I think) for a working class gown and may actually finish it in time for GWW. Crazy talk!
Project War Gown starts tomorrow afternoon.
Note to self, fray-test black wool tonight. I don't want to go through the fulling process again if I don't have to.

Last night I realized I probably have enough velveteen to make a new fancy gown but it needs a specific shade of red-gold for the guarding or it won't work. Of course, I don't have anything even close to the right color so this looks like it will be a dream dress for a while. Bummer.
I know front lacing Saxon bodices are probably over-represented in the SCA but in this case I am inspired by an image that really does it for me and it happens to lace. So sue me.  ;-)

I know...but I like them best out of ALL the late period styles, so if/when I make another late period gown, odds are good that's what I'll make too.

Me too. Mmmmm... Cranach. :-)

Have you tried dyeing your own to get the perfect red-gold shade?

First I have to get the brocade. The evil budget monster has a few tings to say about that.
Dyeing is a possibility but iffy. It really needs to be a metallic true gold to be perfect but I'm not *that* picky.
Maybe the fabric fariy will give me the exact stuff I'm looking for. Don't laugh- that's how I got the velveteen in the first place!

No laughing from this corner -- I'm a big fan of the fabric fairy! So what type of brocade do you have in mind? I may have something tucked into the stash that might be appropriate.

I found the perfect brocade in my stash, where it had been all along. Go figure.
Thank you for your very generous offer though!
